This little Rufous hummingbird was quite a poser! She selected a perch on a small shrub, strategically located in view of both of the hummingbird feeders. And conveniently located in front of a comfy chair for me to sit in! I was relaxing on the porch of a small B&B in La Conner, Washington. While waiting for my friend to arrive, I was delighted by the hummingbirds, and took loads of pictures! What made this shot interesting was the bright orange Mini Cooper that pulled in while I was photographing the bird. My first thought was annoyance at the non-naturalness of the background. But this was forgotten once I saw how the vivid color set off the bird's plumage. This shot ended up being my favorite hummingbird photo of the trip, and I have added her to the Audubon Room.
Sometimes what seems like a nuisance at first, ends up being a gift!
